On 26 October 2026 OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Terra. Its main skill is computer use: the model sees what is on the screen, moves between apps and takes actions like a person would, filling in forms, moving data and preparing documents. It is available on paid ChatGPT plans and to developers through the API, and according to OpenAI it costs roughly half as much as the previous generation.
What is an AI agent?
A regular chatbot answers questions. An agent completes a task from start to finish: it opens the programs it needs, finds information and takes the steps itself. A person sets the goal and checks the result.
Which tasks can you hand over already?
- Moving data between systems, for example online store orders into a spreadsheet.
- Drafting quotes and invoices.
- Tracking competitors’ prices and products.
- Routine checks: whether website forms work, whether products are in stock.
What to watch out for
- Access. Don’t give an agent admin passwords or bank access. Create a separate user with limited rights.
- Oversight. Agents make mistakes and may take an unexpected route to finish a task. Important steps should be approved by a person.
- Data protection. GDPR applies when customer data is involved. Find out where the data is processed and whether you have a data processing agreement with the provider.
- Cost. Measure how long the task takes today. If it’s a few minutes a week, automation won’t pay off.
