Google Analytics and Search Console offer hundreds of metrics, but a business owner doesn’t need to follow them all. Six numbers, checked once a month, are enough.
1. Enquiries and orders
The most important number: how many people contacted you, sent an enquiry or bought something. If it isn’t set up as a goal in Analytics, start there.
2. Conversion rate
The percentage of visitors who take the action you want. If you have lots of visits but few enquiries, the problem is your content, offer or forms, not your traffic.
3. Traffic sources
Where visitors come from: Google search, ads, social media, direct visits or AI services. A healthy mix protects you if one channel weakens.
4. Impressions and clicks on Google
Search Console shows how often your site appeared in search and how often people clicked. If impressions are growing, your SEO is heading the right way, even if AI Overviews keep clicks lower.
5. Mobile speed
Your Google PageSpeed mobile score and Core Web Vitals. A slow site loses customers before they even see the content. A good target is 90 or higher.
6. Returning visitors
Do people come back? Repeat visits show that your content and offer are valuable.
How to do this without losing time
- Have one simple monthly report set up with these six numbers.
- Always compare with the previous month and the same month last year.
- If a number changes sharply, ask your developer for the reason and an action plan.
